Our mission is to do our part to overcome hunger and provide assistance to families in our community who have encountered an unfortunate time in their life. Our future vision is to provide temporary shelter, permanent jobs and housing. We can reach this goal with the help of donations and funds.
We started by handing out care bags, homemade scarves and hats in 2014.
We began handing out a simple sack lunch in 2015.
From 2016 to 2018 we started handing out a quick hot meal in to-go containers in the parking lot of Reflect church in Elk Grove, and also Lil Caesars pizza in the evenings.
In 2018 we were invited by Elk Grove United Methodist Church to use their downstairs Bartholomew Hall. We are currently inviting the homeless and families in need to come have lunch provided every Tuesday, and Thursday.
Florin High school provided left overs from their lunch program on Monday & Wednesdays.
Just imagine for a minute:
Everything in your life is going great. You have a job, house and nice car. You go to work one day and the doors are closed and it’s out of business without any warning. For some of us who have a spouse who works, we can hope that their job can keep us afloat till something else comes along. Or that we are lucky enough to have a savings put away for an emergency.
But now the time goes by. One month two months three and so on, then your bills fall behind no matter how much you cut back. Then the Repo guys call about collecting your car. So now you have no job, no way to get around.
Your next move is to downsize to a smaller house or apartment, but because your credit is going bad because you aren’t paying your bills on time, everyone frowns on you.
So next step is relatives, and that’s if you have any or even get along with any. But even that only works out for a short time because people don’t like the inconvenience and intrusion.
So what’s left? Sadly but true for over 10,000 people in our community all they have is the streets. Not everyone chooses to be on the streets, not everyone is on drugs or an alcoholic. They all have a story. We have heard many of them during our distributions of lunches and supplies.
Let’s be grateful that we are not suffering the cold and dangers of the street. Let’s help those in need that are homeless for whatever their story is, and be grateful that it’s not yours.
With the spirit of compassion, respect and selflessness.
Thank You,
